The various methods used to assist a poetic audience in rote memorization are highly effective. I prefer the audio off and use the games to keep me engaged. The only problem I have is the lack of 20th and 21st century poetry as well as poetry outside of the English academic cannon. There are all sorts of translations there for the taking and an option to hear fluid poetry in languages other than English would be an asset.

Ive never liked in–apps techniques to keep users coughing up a stream of money. There are many poetry anthologies at Gutenberg that can be used for easy access and learning. Just put a clip of your target poem as a screen saver until its in your memory.

really nice way to learn old, classical poetry by heart. It would be even better if you make next, similar application where people can themselves record poems of their choice, with your help add some random words and learn them, preferably in several languages. Also It would be an interesting tool to learn lyrics of favorite songs.

I really love this app. I just recently got it, and so far it has not crashed or glitched; a good sign. I do wish that they had a bit more free options, but I know that is probably too much to ask. I personally found it misleading how the app itself was free of charge, but then once you already have it you find out that mostly all the poems will cost you. However, this is a very good app and I like the style of which you are taught the poems.

As a recovered drug addict, this app has been phenomenal in rejoining my intellectual roots, bolstering my memory and taste in literature. Id recommend this app to anyone in junior high and higher, and perhaps even those in grade school whove an interest in self expansion of a rich and magical sort. One of my better lifestyle choices <3

It helps to memorize big chunks of information and trains the memory, and it is also a playful and lovely re-introduction to the world of poetry. Poems which are carefully picked by fine editors, great mechanics and a nice interface - these are the pros of this app. The only minus I can bear in mind is that the amount of time spent with it exceeds my sleeping hours sometimes.

The sound isnt working, so thats become useless.Fix it please

I absolutely love this app, but it would be even more amazing if there was a way to have a make your own poem feature. In other words, if theres a name or list of things I want to make myself memorize, it would be incredibly useful if I could use text input within this app to make my own document or poem to memorize. Penguin, Please add a way for users to make their own poems / documents in this app! Because we all know its hard to memorize stuff when youre by yourself and unless you are prompted. See, I want to memorize more than just poems. Oh also they should put in the constitution. And prose.

I find this app a source of peace after a long day. I memorize poems extraordinarily quickly with this and my memory, across all aspects of my life, is improving.

Poems by Heart is one of my favorite apps and Im so glad they finally added Yeats. In response to YeatsianMe, it looks like they used an earlier version of "When You Are Old" in which Yeats did write the line with the word "will" included (as seen in the Project Gutenberg collection of Yeats poems). So this version is also correct, just an earlier edition published before Yeats revised his work.

This app works really well and is awesome for learning poems and hearing them. And the ultimate goal of memorizing them. Just wish they had more poems to add to it.

On the one hand, I love it. Great idea. Good poems. Fun and inspiring. But poems have their own mnemonics built in (rhyme, line breaks, stanza unity, alliteration, etc.), and the app doesnt take advantage of them. It especially irks me that sonnets are simply split in half, not divided logically into 4/4/6 lines. Oh, well. Still great fun.

Beautiful and effective from beginning to end

Life can be insane. Surprisingly, poems written long ago can not only explain it, but speak to the heart in making it beautiful. Well done!

The poems are read by a male or a female, and then you fill in blanks to help learn to memorize the poem. Finally you are given the chance to record yourself reading the poem and save it or even share it! It comes with a few poems and then you can purchase additional bundles for 99 cents. Very nicely done app. Works perfectly.
